MGA Times – August 2024: Open Breakfast Events, AGM Details & Conference Planning
The August 2024 edition of MGA Times shares updates from a busy summer for the Maize Growers Association, highlighting recent events, upcoming opportunities, and ways for members to get involved.
The issue opens with a look back at the MGA Open Breakfast events held at Morley and Shepton Mallet. These informal mornings were well attended by both members and non-members, providing a chance to discuss ongoing trials, share knowledge, and showcase the valuable research work the MGA is delivering. Attendees had the opportunity to see trial plots first-hand and engage in discussions about new trial ideas for the future.
Looking ahead, members are reminded of the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will take place on Wednesday 4th September 2024 at Morley Farms, Norfolk, starting at 1:30 pm. The MGA encourages anyone planning to attend to notify the office in advance for health and safety planning.
This edition also includes a call for help with maize eyespot research. The NIAB forage division is studying different strains of eyespot disease and has asked growers to send in fresh samples from their fields over the coming months. Full details of how to collect and send samples are provided.
Finally, there’s a conference update: planning is well underway for the 2025 MGA Conference, scheduled for 11th–12th February in Shepton Mallet. Most of the speaker lineup has been confirmed, with tickets due to go on sale in mid-September. There are limited trade stand spaces and sponsorship opportunities still available for interested commercial members.
