The March 2025 edition of MGA Times reflects on the success of this year’s MGA Annual Conference in Shepton Mallet. The two-day event brought together growers, advisers, researchers, and industry representatives for knowledge sharing and networking.
Day one saw over 60 participants visit the South West Dairy Development Centre and Steanbow Farms for guided tours and discussions on practical farming approaches. Day two attracted over 130 delegates to the Bath and West Showground, where presentations, trade stands, and networking opportunities created a full day of learning. The MGA team extends thanks to all speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors for making the event a success.
The 2025 MGA Photo Competition winner was also announced during the conference. Congratulations to Adam and Alice Probert of G & J Probert, whose creative storyboard entry secured the prize. A special mention was also given to Will Bacon for his striking image of grass seedlings.
Looking ahead, this issue introduces a drilling webinar on 9th April, led by MGA Agronomist Jon Myhill, focused on giving maize crops the best possible start this spring. There are also details of Catchment Sensitive Farming training sessions taking place in the North West on 26th and 27th March.
Additionally, the MGA team shares insights from a 12-day trip to New Zealand with FAR (Foundation for Arable Research), which included farm visits and knowledge exchange with New Zealand growers.
Members are also invited to complete an ADAS survey on nutrient management planning with cover crops, with results helping to inform the development of a new decision support tool.
