MGA Times – May 2025: New N Predictor, Summer Event, and Conference 2026 Dates

  • May 1, 2025
  • 1 min read

The May 2025 edition of MGA Times brings important announcements for members, focusing on new tools, events, and planning for next year’s conference.

One of the key highlights is the launch of an updated Nitrogen Predictor tool. Developed by Ellie Sweetman-Roberts (NIAB) and John Morgan (Creedy Associates), this improved version now takes account of growing season rainfall to make more precise recommendations for nitrogen applications. A major feature of the updated tool is its guidance on the use of foliar nitrogen later in the season, ensuring nitrogen is applied when crops need it most. A detailed report on this development is included with this mailing, and members who receive postal mailings can request a copy from the MGA office.

Looking ahead, MGA has partnered with AHDB to organise a Summer Maize Event on 15th July 2025 at Steanbow Farms in Somerset. This event will include trial site walks, demonstrations, stands, food, and opportunities to engage with experts on rotational maize management.

The issue also announces the MGA Conference 2026, scheduled for 4–5 February 2026 in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Day two will take place at the Hinckley Island Hotel. The first main sponsor confirmed is Frontier/Intracrop, with further speaker, trade stand, and ticket details to follow in future updates.

In addition, this issue provides information for members looking to collect BASIS and NRoSO points using their MGA membership details.

Download the full issue below for detailed guidance on the new nitrogen predictor, event announcements, and conference plans.
