The September 2024 edition of MGA Times is full of key announcements for members, including the official launch of ticket sales for the 2025 MGA Conference and news of significant leadership changes within the association.

Conference 2025 tickets are now available via Eventbrite. Scheduled for 11–12 February 2025 in Shepton Mallet, the conference promises two packed days of insight, including a farm visit to the South West Dairy Development Centre and Steanbow Farms on day one, followed by a full programme of speakers and trade stands on day two at the Bath and West Showground. A detailed programme and ticketing details are included in this issue.

The AGM held earlier this month marked an important transition: John Jackson has stepped down as MGA Chairman after years of dedicated service. John will remain a council member, while Michael Jarmuz steps into the role of Chairman and Will Oliver becomes Vice Chair. The council thanked John for his exceptional leadership and welcomed the new team as they look to the future.

This edition also provides an update on the 2024 maize season and trials. Due to a mixed spring, planting dates varied significantly, but many crops are maturing earlier than expected, with trials in Norfolk and Harper Adams showing good progress. Results from these trials will be presented at the February conference.

Additional updates include:

  • Catchment Sensitive Farming training sessions attended by MGA staff,

  • A reminder of the MGA’s new postal address for correspondence,

  • And a farewell thank-you to Mole Valley Farmers for 15 years of sponsorship support.

Download the full issue below for full details on conference tickets, leadership news, and harvest updates.
